I have heard of more people being killed by buffalo than any other wild animal. The most dangerous are known as 'dagga boys' - dagga being mud. These are the older, bad tempered males that have left the herd and live out their lives amongst the reeds on the edge of mud pools. Their survival depends on their ability to fend off predators - especially lion - of which with their enormous horns and strength, is usually not a problem. The ones I came across here, were three such characters not to be messed with!
