The elephant in the middle of this impressive trio, was known as 'the'
Chura
Bull. He inhabited an area in the Matusadona next to lake Kariba. I had
the privelege of studying and photographing him before he was found
fatally
tusked by a younger elephant bull. I was glad that his death had been
natural and not by poachers. The ivory was recovered from the Matusadona
shoreline. The left weighed 100.1lbs(8ft in length) and the right,
90.2lbs(8ft 3" in length). It was the end of an era at his passing, but
he
will always be remembered by those who had experienced his bad termpered
character, often enforced by a threatening mock charge!
