. Over that period of time I had a number of doctors confront me about my drinking. My cholesterol and liver functions were off the charts and my high blood pressure was not controllable due to my drinking. Eventually at some point the doctor would tell me that they could no longer treat me and hand me my records. What do I do at this point? Easy, go find a new doctor and the cycle begins again.
I stopped drinking on April 1st 1996 when a friend of mine became very sick as a result of their drinking and literally scared me into seeking help. Something no doctor had been able to do for me. What I should have done at that point was seek out a detox facility but instead I detoxified myself it in my house by myself. DON”T DO THIS, it is very uncomfortable and very dangerous. Bringing yourself down off of alcohol with out medical attention is both extremely uncomfortable and potentially life threatening. Something my latest doctor pointed out rather forcefully when I went to see him 3 weeks later.
About that time I entered into a 12-step program and the healing began. I had to learn a new way of thinking both about myself as well as how to deal in a world with out any mind altering substances in my system. I am positive that this is something I would not have been able to learn or do on my own. With out a lot of support from family and people in recovery I don't think I would be here today. Certainly not doing this certainly not working with people who want to be and or are in recovery.
Start the process and give me a call. I will tell you the rest of my story; a lot of it will probably sound familiar to you. You don't have to do this alone you are not unique others have come before you and want to help. You don't have to feel the way you do, there is a way out. If you are reading this you probably know you have a problem, call me. If you are a family member or friend of someone in need of recovery or a safe place to live call me. I can help, do it for yourself or for someone you love.
