White Flight
It is at a rare moment of fortune that you come across a magnificent
elephant such as this one. I was walking one morning early, in the Mana
Pools National Park in the Zambezi Valley. Nothing of great interest had
occured during the hour or so in which I had been out. I made my sweaty
way
back
to camp with a feeling of disappointment settling upon me.
It is experiences such as this that make the African bush so exciting
and
unpredictable. As I hoisted my camera over my shoulder and looked
towards the tree line, this great beast erupted in the fury of a full
mock charge.
It was a moment of great adrenaline as the mighty giant thundered towards
me
with dust and egrets churning together! How I managed to grab my camera
and
capture the incident on film before throwing myself down a steep
embankment,
where he could not follow, to this day remains a mystery!
